Head of Planning, Control and Operations at Equans ChileAt over 2,000 metres above sea level, Alejandra leads a large team at a copper mine in the Atacama mountain range. Passionate about technical topics and gifted with strong people skills, she brings a calm, structured approach to a complex environment—where being service-focused is more than a mindset, it’s a mission.
“ I’ve always loved maths and technical subjects, so I studied Electrical Civil Engineering at the Catholic University of Valparaíso. In 2014, I started as an engineer at SDI, a Chilean SME. After a few changes—including some time as a freelancer—I joined Equans Chile in 2019. Today, I’m 37 and work on behalf of our client Codelco, the national copper company and the largest copper producer in the world. We’re based in Calama, right next to the mine. ”
What does your role involve today?
I started in electrical scheduling, and then moved into my current position as Head of Planning, Control and Operations. I now lead a team of about 60 people, with very diverse skill sets—medium and high voltage experts, electrical protection specialists, telecommunications engineers, and more. Together, we deliver a wide range of services for the processing plant connected to the mine.
Would you say your career is fulfilling?
Absolutely. My role really suits my personality—I'm calm, sociable, and very organised. The atmosphere in our team is fantastic, and that makes all the difference. It's a very supportive and collaborative environment.
How would you describe Equans to someone who doesn't know us?
Equans is a global leader in energy, digital, and industrial transitions. We take on complex challenges across a wide range of sectors. In the electrical field, for example, our teams handle public lighting, deploy electrical substations, and electrify mining infrastructure. Here in Chile alone, we operate on 25 different sites, from Arica in the far north to Punta Arenas in the extreme south.
Is there a project you’re particularly proud of?
I’m incredibly proud of the trust we’ve built with Codelco over the past 13 years. The client consistently gives us excellent feedback. We began by maintaining existing infrastructure, and then took on the electrification of new buildings. Soon, we may even be working underground—right at the heart of the copper extraction process. It’s been a really inspiring journey.
