IMPACT, Equans' CSR approach

Equans' CSR approach is based on 7 strong and structuring commitments, summarized in the IMPACT manifesto.

 

Our environmental and social issues are part of our global performance challenges:

3. We improve our clients’ environmental footprint.

We are committed to be proactive to decarbonize our clients’ operations : decarbonized energy, cooling and heating, electrification, transport and storage of electricity and better use of this energy in buildings and infrastructures.

BNP Pariabs fortis headquarters

In Brussels, Equans is responsible for the cooling and electrical installations of the new BNP Paribas Fortis headquarters.

Our teams also installed a photovoltaic park on the roof of the financial institution's logistics building, a large part of whose production will be used for its operations.

As a result, 140 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year are avoided.

4. We improve our own environmental footprint

  • We are committed to improve our carbon, waste, water & biodiversity footprint and those of our suppliers : offices, sites, transportation.
  • We invest in innovations and  technologies to drive environnemental transition.

Equans UK & Ireland is strengthening its roadmap to net zero carbon by bringing forward its targets by 10 years:

  • Net Zero by 2030 for Scope 1 (direct greenhouse gas emissions) and Scope 2 (indirect energy-related emissions).
  • Net Zero by 2035 for heating networks. Net Zero by 2045 for all Scope 3 emissions (other indirect emissions).
  • Commitment to independent validation by the SBTi (Science Base Targets initiative).

5. We engage in our communities development

Deeply rooted in our communities, we are a proactive and responsible local economic actor.  by creating jobs and providing professional qualifications.

In Belgium, Equans has developed the COT (Create Our Technicians) project, to train internal and external profiles tailored to the skills required for a contract. The project is coordinated by the Equans Academy.

6. We provide fair & equal opportunities for all.

  • It is our responsibility to give everyone the same chance to express and develop their potential and talent.
  • We are proud to promote a strong culture of diversity and inclusion at all levels of the company.

Equans France is committed to fighting sexism and promoting professional equality: 

  • Creation and management of a network of 75 sexism referents.
  • Nearly 2,400 people have been trained in the fight against sexism since 2020.
  • 31 training and awareness sessions on professional equality organised in 2021.
  • 10 e-learning modules accessible to all.

 

In 2022, Equans Netherlands signed a partnership with The Refugee Talent Hub, a Dutch NGO that connects employers and refugees to promote equal opportunities for refugees in the labour market. This is in line with Equans' ambition to be a recognised employer of talent and also to provide a safe and free working environment for its employees.

Our climate commmitments

To improve our carbon footprint (scopes 1, 2, 3a) 

Equans has committed to reducing its carbon emissions by 30% to 40% by 2030. This commitment will be formalised with the SBTi during the following months by defining a rigorous path towards reduction. 

Equans has launched its first global measurement of its carbon footprint: its CO2 emissions for scopes 1 and 2 are 622,000 Teq CO2 . The consolidated global carbon footprint, incorporating scope 3a, will be complete in 2024.

The main avenues of carbon reduction include:

    • Electrification of our light vehicle and utility vehicle fleet
      to reach 30% by 2026 and 80% by 2031 in countries whose energy mix is predominantly decarbonised.
    • A programme aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of our sites and agencies
      notably including a plan to convert gas heating networks to run on heat pumps and to achieve an energy performance diagnosis (DPE) of class C or lower for the majority of our permanent offices.
    • A procurement policy favouring suppliers who offer low-carbon products
      (target: the first 50 of the group’s suppliers), enabling us to offer our clients lower-carbon alternatives.
    • Raising our employees´ awareness
      regarding energy conservation, the circular economy and the preservation of resources and biodiversity

To act with our clients (scope 3b)

Equans aims to accelerate its clients’ energy transition throughout the entire energy value chain; in particular, by incorporating the following into its value proposition and avenues of innovation:

    • Equans solutions contribute to reduced consumption
      through energy conservation and performance, control of installations and building monitoring systems, LED lighting, occupancy optimisation, “Free cooling” (ventilation using outside air) and the recovery of fatal heat from factories.
    • Equans solutions contribute to “green” consumption
      through photovoltaic installations, geothermal energy (ATES – BTES technologies), heat pumps, natural refrigerant and biomass, electric vehicle recharging facilities and rail electrification.
    • Equans solutions contribute to flexible consumption
      through energy reduction, process support, resources and digital tools automatism, control and management of buildings and plants, and managed electricity grids (smart grids, SCADA, etc.).
